  • bogeyman: "I had never seen Green Day before and was excited when the new tour was announced. I was living in New York at the time but happened to be visiting friends in Florida and saw the first few dates of the Green Day tour starting in Florida. I could have seen them at a bigger venue but was surprised Green Day was playing Jannus Landing (an open courtyard venue that holds around 1500 people). The show sold out right away but my friend Manny got us tickets (he worked for one of the promoters, No Clubs). So Manny, Albert, Faith (my then-girlfriend) and I went to the concert together. We got to the venue a little early and had a few beers. The thing that really sucks about Jannus Landing is that there are no seats at all (standing only in the courtyard). So we maneuvered our way through the crowd and got close to the stage right before the opening band took the stage. By the time Green Day hit the stage almost everyone was sweaty and drunk and ready to rock. Green Day had the same basic stage setup as Superdrag did. Stage and lights didn't matter, the music would do all the talking and Green Day brought the house down. They opened with 'Going To Pasalacqua' and from the moment they began to play they held the entire crowd's attention for their complete show. Billie Joe Armstrong's vocals were very loud and punkish, he talked to the crowd in between songs and screamed, 'Fuck ska!' throughout the concert. 'Welcome To Paradise' and 'Geek Stink Breath' were played next and my friends and I were fist pumping, dancing and singing along wildly. I knew Green Day would be good, but not this good! Musically Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool never missed a lick or beat and you could hear and feel the authenticity of their punk rock songs. Green Day then rocked everyone's butt off and played 'Nice Guys Finish Last', 'Hitchin' A Ride', 'Chump', 'Longview', '2,000 Light Years Away', 'Brain Stew', 'Jaded', 'Knowledge' (Operation Ivy cover), 'Basket Case', 'She', 'F.O.D.', 'Paper Lanterns', 'Prosthetic Head' and 'When I Come Around'. They played for almost two hours total and the only song I really wanted to hear but they didn't play was 'Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)'. Green Day was unreal live in concert, a must-see event for everyone."
