13 years ago (11 August 2011), the ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré! era began when Green Day played the Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa, CA.

“We went and played 20 songs that no one had ever heard - in a row. And with no plan of a record even coming out. That was terrifying. It reminded me of the times we played in front of crowds that had never heard of us before - nothing was familiar. There was nothing being marketed. About 30 people attended the 40-minute show, but after it ended, more people arrived and were disappointed to hear it was already over.

The band's money and clothes were stolen from their van at the show prior, so everyone pitched in to help. They stayed in Auburn for another day. Ken Sanderson of Prank Records, who booked the show, believes they completed some songs from Kerplunk while Billie Joe played his acoustic guitar on the porch.

Billie Joe was naughty and played several ¡Dos! songs he wasn't supposed to play before it was released.

My most enduring memory from this show is Billie Joe laughing at how we all knew the lyrics to Stay the Night a month before it was officially released. And of course there was Tré telling us that Billie had laryngitis but not to worry because he was there and then he opened the show with All By Myself. Billie did not have laryngitis. What a night.



GDC user Hermione says, "Shepherd's Bush holy shit, I've never been that hot and sweaty like that in my life, just drenched from head to toe lol. We started near the front but halfway through my sister passed out. By the time I had realised and managed to get through the crowd to her she already felt better and was ready to rejoin the crowd and dance again, just in a more chill area and they played KFAD right after that which was perfect as we both love it (also Billie getting booed for singing Hey Jude and having no clue why lmao - it was because Paul McCartney's recent performance of it at the Olympics had been criticised/made fun of in the press). I loved the "wall of death" and it was kind of perfect that it ended on a fast song with 99 Revolutions and no Good Riddance cuz it was just such a high energy show."

11 years ago (24 August 2013), Green Day played Leeds Festival in England. It was the last show of the 99 Revolutions Tour. Billie played Walk Away and said, "if I died right now, this would be a good way to go out."

GDC user Rumpelstiltskin2000 says, "Once I got off the bus at the festival it was just mud. Everywhere I looked, mud. Everywhere I walked, mud. I must have had to walk almost a mile to the stage. The mud just got worse and worse the further you went! It was sucking my shoes off and I kept having to fish them out.
Green Day had just started 99 Revolutions as I got to the main stage. I didn’t see the bunny or anything. I went all the way down Mike’s side waving my arm in the air and singing '99 revolutions tonight!' I stopped second row near the screen.
It rained all night and because I’d rushed off I didn’t have any supplies. Everyone else had umbrellas, ponchos, wellies, and I was just there in my Green Day t-shirt, skirt and slip on shoes!
I didn’t regret anything at all of course. The show was incredible. It was insane to hear Dookie again. When they started playing A Quick One I couldn’t believe my ears. I knew how lucky I was. And Walk Away! I was just rocking out the whole time getting even more covered in mud.
I tried to go to one of the merch booths but the mud just made it impossible. I put my foot in the puddle in front of it and my shoe just got sucked straight in. I bet they couldn’t sell anything! Everyone was chanting 'we all paid £200 to walk through gravy' all the way from the stage to the bus stop. I must have been on one of the last buses out and some of them couldn’t get out of the mud."

14 years ago (30 August 2010), Green Day played in Phoenix, AZ on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. This was the first time I saw Green Day in the US. it was one of the best shows I've ever seen and is still one of my most treasured memories. Some highlights from my recap:

"It was like everything leading up to this was a five-second dream. I was sitting in England, then I was suddenly there in the dry Arizona heat, surrounded by palm trees; hearing Song of the Century, the closest I’d ever been to a stage Green Day were about to take. Around us, the crowd chanted ‘Green Day! Green Day!’ Then the band ran on – Billie with his blond hair and striped jeans, Tré in shorts, perfectly drawn Mike, Jason in a blue jacket – in perfect clarity. ‘Buenos noches Phoenix, ARIZONA!’ Billie yelled. There are no words to describe what hearing that for the first time was like. My words caught in my throat as I sang ‘dream, America, dream’ there, in America."
"In East Jesus Nowhere, Billie pulled up a kid called Alexander, stealing his earmuffs and helping him play his Les Paul Jr. ‘Security, security, get rid of this kid! He’s gonna steal my pot!’"
"After the crowd sang the first verse of Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Billie placed his guitar down. He proceeded to attempt a headstand. He soon fell on his arse, but he just got back up, did a dance and announced ‘I’ll fucking do anything for fucking Arizona, I’ll tell you that!’ The song was anthemic."



"Billie caught something from the crowd, threw it out, then grinned. ‘We’re gonna play a brand new song.’ We glanced at each other with wide eyes. We had no internet and no idea what they’d been playing. ‘It ain’t that brand new. This song’s called Cigarettes and Valentines!’"
"We expected Minority. 'Sing us a song of the century, it sings like American Eulogy…’ We heard American Eulogy, in America. This mass hysteria was like the entire show’s rage, love, energy and passion rolled into one triumphant, dazzling climax as confetti exploded around us and the band. The crowd stilled as the show closed once again with Last Night on Earth, Wake Me Up When September Ends and Good Riddance. No dream of seeing Green Day in their home country could ever have prepared us for this reality. It was better."
