“I met Green Day for the first time at a house party in Dinkytown. A friend of mine invited me to a party on the Fourth of July. So I went with my boyfriend at the time to check out the bands. On this day 7 years ago (7 July 2017), Green Day played the Mad Cool Festival on the Revolution Radio Tour.



11 years ago (7 July 2013), Green Day played the Montreux Jazz Festival on the 99 Revolutions Tour. This was actually quite a small show (4,000 people) in the middle of all the stadium shows. It was also the only time I've ever feared for my life at a gig, and that's coming from a British person, but it was a good night. See photos

12 years ago (16 July 2012), the Oh Love lyric video was released, making it the first studio version we heard from the trilogy. I remember rushing into the GDC thread to say I never wanted to forget how I felt the first time I heard the bridge. Probably have forgotten though.

"I went to several shows at the North Shore back then. I remember the Green Day one pretty well. I think I had only heard 39/Smooth at the time so I know they played a lot from it. Billie's guitar strap broke during the show and it seemed like it took him forever to fix it. The sang the Mickey Mouse song during that. The M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E song." — Todd D.

This year, Billie Joe shared an acoustic performance of Suzie Chapstick. We don't get to hear many Green Day songs acoustic and he actually played the full song, so this was pretty incredible (and it's my favourite song from Saviors so I'm biased).

"Green Day played an AMAZING show in Vegas Wednesday night. The band had so much energy. I was suprised at how small the place was, like a high school gym. We stood a couple rows back in the center. We saw Adrienne a lot. She was walking back and forth in front of us with two other girls. She's a really small girl. Then she went on the side of the stage and sat down in some special seats. After a set change the siren lights started spinning and Mike and Tre came out and everyone cheered, then Billie walked out casually and the crowd went nuts. They broke right in to Nice Guys Finish Last. Billie told the people sitting in the seats to get up because 'this isn't a fucking blackjack table, get off your asses and dance!' The guys that played the horns came out and the guy in the bee costume was dancing around. Billie squirted us with supersoakers and, of course, he brought up people from the crowd to play Knowledge, they sounded OK. Tre bashed his drums and Mike threw his guitar in the pile of drums. It ended at 11:00. It was a great show. Too bad like 80% of the people there were teenybopper little 14-year-olds in trendy clothes." — GDA

"I saw Green Day above the Union Club in 1991, the year the band released 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. Those pop-punk songs (an anthology of early tracks) captured a general disregard for adulthood and decorum that I related to, even if they were mostly vapid love songs about checking out cute girls in the library. Green Day wasn’t really edgy so much as they embodied the fun, carefree, middle-finger-flipping attitude I sometimes needed to balance out darker, more serious bands I liked, including the Nation of Ulysses and Fugazi (both of whom also played Missoula around the same time). "When I saw them, it was at a small (now sadly defunct) club in New Britain, CT called The Sting. Between the time we bought the tickets and the show was when they started to blow up at radio and MTV and all that. It was pretty funny, actually, because nobody at my school knew much about them when the tickets went on sale. But when the school year was coming to an end and the show was approaching, people were complaining that it was sold out. Me and my buddy that I went with loved that.
