In 2013, a film was released that chronicles the history of the WFNX radio station in Boston. Titled We Want the Airwaves, the film was put together by the radio station and long-time listeners.
Part of the film tells the tale of Green Day's September 1994 show on the Esplanade at the Hatch Shell in Boston. More than 70,000 people showed up for the show and a riot ensued that ended up driving the band off-stage before their set finished. The film provides interviews with city law enforcement, radio station personalities, and other people involved with the hectic event.
