[pic=Dookie]013114_greendaydookie.jpg[/pic]Rolling Stone has counted down the top 40 best mainstream alternative albums of 1994 and Green Day's Dookie has made the list.

Dookie comes in at number one on the countdown, ahead of albums from Weezer, Soundgarden, and the Offspring, among others, claiming the top spot as mainstream alternative's best album of 1994 - a year which Rolling Stone claims as mainstream alternative's greatest.

These nagging brats were here to spill hair dye on your living room carpet. Tré Cool's stop-start drum swats, Mike Dirnt's back-talk bass melodies, Billie Joe Armstong's nuanced machine-gun chording — each element in these 15 simple little tunes (save the goof bonus track) had a twitchy precision that'd get a fancier band called 'arty.'

Rolling Stone goes on to talk a little bit more the album, specifically targeting "Longview," "Basket Case," and "Welcome to Paradise."

Green Day's bit and the rest of the list can be found over on Rolling Stone's website here.
