[pic=Green Day postpone their US tour]102912_tourmoved.jpg[/pic]Moments ago, GreenDay.com posted a press release informing fans that Green Day has cancelled their club tour that was scheduled to run from September 26th to December 10th. The release also said that tour dates scheduled for January and February of 2013 have been postponed.
The press release assures that rescheduled dates for the postponed shows will be announced shortly. If you have previously purchased tickets for any of the upcoming shows in January and February, they will be honored on the new dates. Refunds for the cancelled club tour will be available at the point of purchase.
Mike Dirnt was quoted in the press release saying the following about Billie's [turl=http://www.greendayauthority.com/news/3595/]recent time[/turl] in rehab:
[quoteFull]Obviously the timing for this isn't ideal, but Billie Joe's well-being is our main concern. We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can't wait to see you all again soon.[/quoteFull]
In addition, the band has now also moved the release date for ¡Tré! from January 15th to December 11th in order to make up for postponing the tour. Tré Cool commented on moving the release date of the final album in the band's trilogy:
[quoteFull]We feel bad we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned. If we couldn't be there to play it for you live, the least we could do was give you the next best thing.[/quoteFull]
As unfortunate as all of this is, we need to remember that Billie's health takes priority over tour. Postponing the tour is the best thing to do right now, in my opinion. Just to re-emphasize, dates scheduled from now until December 10th have been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Dates scheduled for January and February will be rescheduled in the near future.
