[img=022612_tomkitt.jpg]Recently Kristin Friedrich of the Center Theatre Group did an interview with Tom Kitt, the man who did the musical arrangements for Green Day's American Idiot Musical.

As a writer, I take in every influence, especially when it helps shape my voice. I learned many lessons in craft from Green Day. They're phenomenal songwriters who have an innate gift for writing theatrical songs with strong dramatic beats. Because in the theatre, it's all about story. As a composer, you can pick any style and you can try to make that style feel authentic, but at the end of the day, if you're not delivering a story that an audience can invest in, you're going to have a problem.

I thought that Tom did an amazing job arranging Green Day's songs for the stage. The first time that I saw American Idiot during its previews on Broadway I knew that I could never look at that album the same way again. Tom's work on American Idiot was rewarded when him and Billie Joe won a Grammy in 2011 for the American Idiot cast album.

What did you guys think of Tom Kitt's arrangements for American Idiot? Leave us a comment and let us know!
