Emily's Army guirarist Travis Neumann had to pull out of Emily's Army show with Bobby Joe Ebola And The Children MacNuggits at the 1-2-34 Go! Records store last night, after he had to have an operation to have his tonsils out in hospital. We wish Travis well with that (eat lots of ice cream dude).
Rather than cancel their show, Emily's Army recruited a Mr. Billie Joe Armstrong to fill in on guitar. By all accounts, Armstrong plugged the gap pretty well, drawing on his years of experience playing in another up and coming band, Green Day.
One of our friends from the Green Day Community, Sandra, was at the show and had this to say about it:
Billie Joe was the "guest guitarist" for Travis of Emily's Army last night at 1-2-3-4 Go! Records. The show was awesome. Bobby Joe Ebola was hilarious. The stage was set for EA, and when it was time for them to come out the lights were cut off. Then we see them all in their Christmas holiday hats- including Billie all the way on the left-hand of the stage. Nat Nesser was taking photos, sitting on the side of the stage that Billie was on (Bill Schneider was there sitting next to Nat.)
Billie did well filling in for Travis; there were a bunch of setlists and 'notes' at his foot that he was looking down at a lot. Billie was glancing at Joey a lot, and at one point pretended that he was about to jump on Joey's drum set. Everyone was laughing and having a good time. Whenever Billie had a cool guitar riff, he'd shove his guitar in Bill's face while playing it and laughing. For a lot of the time, BJ actually had a pretty serious look on his face but occasionally would goof around with Cole or Joey. He didn't say a word during the show; he was pretty much just on the side playing guitar which was different (all those Green Day shows where he'd dominate the stage) but good since it was EA's show.
They had a great set list which ended with Loch Lomond. The pit was hella crazy!! Everyone in the front was getting pushed onto the stage (I fell on Cole's mic stand at one point... oops!) but it was so lively which I absolutely loved. We were all falling over in the front, super low stage, but helping each other up. Saw Adi there too, or at least her dreads, off to the side near the band entrance. People were crowd surfing left and right, and many were jumping on stage to sing a line and then jump off into the crowd (mostly buddies of EA though.) Great show. Started an hour late but ended right on time. Oh yes, and Billie must've been participating in No-Shave-November with that beard he had! Overall, awesome show.
Sounded like a fun show! Check out this thread for more discussion and pictures.
