Green Day opened their surprise set at The Mezzanine in San Francisco on Tuesday night with the Dookie classic, but not before Billie Joe took the time to explain Green Day's surprise appearance (for the surfer foundation). He started by saying "we woke up this morning and had no idea we were playing a show" and also apologized for putting out the "ugliest board short" ever. Is this the one he means?

Anyway, check out the video. There's a couple of minutes of entertaining banter with the crowd - and some important messages ;) before the band launch into a brilliant opening performance of "Welcome To Paradise":
