Song of the Week: "Words I Might Have Ate"
By Aska /Sep. 26, 2011 / Comments
This week's Song of the Week is the whistful Words I Might Have Ate, released in 1991 on Green Day's second album, Kerplunk. Despite its cheery, upbeat sound, Words I Might Have Ate's lyrics are ones of a lost love, regret, and not truly appreciating a good thing until it's gone (there's that good ol' Green Day juxtaposition again). The song's narrator is dwelling on old memories of "better days", and asking himself "why?" - what is it that he did, or more specifically said, that caused him to lose his girl. Billie tweeted about the song back in February, saying the song is about a girl called Nina who broke his heart, that he was a shitty boyfriend, and "Hahahaha!".
This week's video is one that I recorded in June 2010 at the Green Day concert in Prague, Czech Republic - an amazing acoustic encore to finish an amazing show (Words I Might Have Ate starts at 2.31 if you want to skip Redundant).
