Interview with Chris B. - 21CB Verizon Tour promoter
By J'net /Aug. 9, 2009 / Comments
Many of you have heard of Chris B. because of his work with the Verizon Promotional crew for Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown tour.
I had an opportunity to talk with Chris while waiting for the sound check to start at the San Antonio venue.
Chris's work on the tour involved promotional activities for Verizon Wireless (tour sponsor).
He traveled on the Verizon promotional bus to each U.S. venue on Green Day's tour, and one of his responsibilities at each show was to select fans to attend the pre-show sound check.
Chris is obviously a people person and seemed to enjoy his job except when he had to say "No" to people who were eager to get into sound check.
Those who gained entry to the sound check were escorted by Chris inside the venue at about 4:30.
When it was time for Green Day's sound check to begin, the group was taken into the arena and seated in the closest seats to the stage.
After sound check, the group moved to the hospitality suite where the fans could eat snacks, play Rock Band, have commemorative photos taken,
and chat about how excited they were.
Verizon also gave each guest a special gift, AND Chris made sure they entered the floor of the arena ahead of all other GA ticket holders!
Chris, being the person who held the keys to heaven at the Green Day shows, became quite popular with the Green Day fan crowd,
especially those of us from the Green Day Authority's forum, the Green Day Community.
However, Chris is an interesting guy in his own right, and I think you'll enjoy reading about him.

Chris at one time lived in the Green Day "Neurosis" house in Oakland.
He had moved to the area from Riverside California because of the East Bay's flourishing punk scene.
He plays bass and played with the Richmond Sluts.
Some quick research told me that they formed in 1997 and released a self-titled CD on the Disaster Records indie label in 2001.
Their CD is still available on amazon.com.
I found the customer reviews quite interesting and plan to check it out for myself.

Chris doesn't actually work for Verizon but for a company that Verizon hires to handle marketing promotions like this one.
He told me that when his job on this leg of the tour finished, his plan was to go back to playing music and start a new band.
The name of the new band hadn't been determined yet, but hopefully he'll let us know when it's chosen so we can watch out for them later.

Chris facts:
I would have loved to chat longer with Chris, but it was time for Green Day's sound check to begin, so I had to be satisfied with the few minutes we had.
However, judging by his past record, I wouldn't be surprised to see him traveling around on Green Day's next U.S. tour.
Be sure to say "Hi" if you run into Chris at any future Green Day shows.
