Last night, the nominations for the 53rd annual Grammy Awards were announced. There are over 100 categories this year at the Grammy Awards and one of them is dedicated to theatrical musicals.
The American Idiot cast album has been nominated for "Best Musical Show Album". Other nominees include "Sondheim on Sondheim", "Fela!", and "Promises, Promises".
If Green Day wins the award, technicly speaking this would not be the first Grammy that the band has received for the songs in the musical. 'American Idiot' won a Grammy in 2005 for "Best Rock Album" and '21st Century Breakdown' won a Grammy in 2010 for "Best Rock Album".
The 2011 Grammy Awards will be taking place on February 13 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California and will be aired live on CBS.
