As the deadline comes closer we though we'd remind you guys that the producers of the documentary "Punk's Not Dead" will be giving away a Squier Mike Dirnt Precision Bass guitar autographed by Mike on July 4th. Just visit this page and order the DVD to be entered. And every time you refer a friend to order the DVD, you'll get an extra entry to win. All the details are on their site.

The producers generously sent us a couple copies of the DVD for us to review and giveaway on the site. We will do that sometime in July, and it'll probably just be a random drawing. We'll give you a question to answer, and if you answer correctly you'll be entered to win. We'll pass along the specifics of this early next month.

As for the DVD itself, I was pretty impressed with it. I'll be the first to tell you that I'm a poser punk historian. I actually don't know crap about the start of punk or much about the early bands that helped kick it off. (I know that's bound to piss some of you off, but early punk just isn't something I'm into). The movie was very thorough in it's storyline, giving praise to the first bands to get big in the scene (Sex Pistols, Ramones, etc.) and gave lots of credit to the bands that kept it alive underground for years, as well as praising the bands such as Green Day, Rancid and The Offspring for taking it mainstream. It included lots of interviews with members of all these bands or the people who worked with them. Billie Joe was interviewed for the documentary and talks about Green Day breaking out into the mainstream and how the band sees their role in the whole scene. If you're even remotely interested in the history, or would just like a better understanding of the influences that brought about Green Day, I'd really recommend this movie. Keep checking back for the details about how to win a free copy from us.
