In the last few minutes, it has been announced that Green Day's 'Independence Day' show, which was due to take place tonight at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow, has been cancelled by the promoter. The promoter cited 'adverse weather conditions' as the reason for the last minute disappointment, which sees Scottish fans missing out on their only show of the RevRad tour.

Rumours emerged around lunchtime that the outdoor show, which would have seen up to 35,000 attendees, had been cancelled, after a since-deleted Instagram post by a crew member was picked up by fans. Regional news outlets quickly picked up the rumoured story, which served only to create more confusion amongst fans, many of whom were already at the venue. These rumours have since been confirmed by the event's promoter in a post on their Facebook page, which directs fans to their original point of purchase to look for refunds:

An extended statement was later released, with significant backlash in the comments section from fans who believed PCL Presents were to blame for the cancellation.

Fans who were already at the park were informed by event staff, who delivered the understandably upsetting news to those in the queue that it would be unsafe for the bands to perform, apparently due to heavy rain leaving the stage unsafe.

The concert would have seen Green Day take to the stage alongside Rancid, Slaves and The Skids for yet another punk rock extravaganza, after last weekend's Hyde Park show.

The band have released the following statement on their website:

Glasgow, we are very sad to report that our show today at Bellahouston Park has been cancelled. The local safety council, production crew, and concert organizers have deemed the stage unsafe for the fans and everyone involved. We are very distraught about this as we are in Glasgow now and were very much looking forward to this show as one the highlights of our tour. We have been playing in extreme weather conditions throughout this European tour, and the last thing we want to do is see a show cancelled. We love our Scottish fans and we don't care if its raining fucking sideways, although the safety of our fans and our crew is always our top priority. We love you Scotland, we love the city of Glasgow and it goes without saying that WE WILL BE BACK!

All three of the band have posted on Instagram following the news, with Mike and Tré sharing photos and Billie sharing a short video:
