"Green Day since 1986" taken to Mars by new NASA lander

NASA's latest Mars lander took along some Green Day memorabilia when it launched back in May, and made its successful landing on Mars yesterday. The band shared on Twitter that it also carried a message that said "Green Day Since 1986".
NASA offered individuals the ability to have a "boarding pass" sent to a chip on the new lander, and Green Day took them up on the offer. From NASA's FAQ from when they were accepting names.
As a huge fan of NASA and Green Day, this is the best of both worlds colliding.

All submitted names are reviewed, approved and then etched onto a microchip. The microchip is placed aboard the spacecraft, which will land on Mars.
