It's about freaking time! Green Day will receive the Kerrang! Icon award, presented by Marshall, at this year's Kerrang! Awards.

On June 23rd, the band will join the ranks of previous Icon winners like MC5 and their punk rock heroes the Ramones.

“Few bands have done more to change the fabric of rock music than Green Day," said Kerrang! editor Luke Morton. "From the seminal and essential explosion of Dookie to the visionary American Idiot and beyond, they have been a gateway band for generations of fans looking for something raw, something exhilarating and something life-affirming. The Kerrang! Icon award is presented in recognition of the band’s longevity and legacy as one of the greatest and most important acts in the history of rock and alternative music, who still captivate and electrify millions of fans all over the world with the power of punk rock.”

Now the question is, will Green Day show up for the ceremony? Fingers crossed!

The Kerrang! Awards take place on June 23rd. Voting is open now for categories, like Best British Act and Best Album. Cast your votes here.

Congrats Green Day!
