The 2016 Drama Desk Awards nominees were announced Thursday and Billie Joe has been nominated for "Outstanding Music in a Play" for his song writing in These Paper Bullets, the musical he wrote eight original songs for.

Billie Joe is up against four other song writers, including friend Tom Kitt, who has helped write orchestrations for several Green Day albums and the American Idiot Musical.

The other nominees:
  • Estelle Bajou, Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally, One Year Lease Theater Company
  • Shaun Davey, Pericles, Theatre for a New Audience
  • Philip Glass, The Crucible
  • Tom Kitt, Cymbeline, New York Shakespeare Festival

The Drama Desk Awards recognize excellence in theatre productions both on and off Broadway. Winners will be announced the night of June 5th.

These Paper Bullets has also been nominated for "Outstanding Costume Design for a Play" and "Outstanding Projection Design."
