Earlier today, Billie Joe was interviewed by Zane Lowe on Apple Music's Beats 1 radio station.

Zane asked Billie Joe about a variety of topics including this Friday's release of 'Revolution Radio,' what the album means to the band, how the songs came together, future tour plans, and some more personal stuff about Billie Joe's song writing.

Check out the interview and select quotes from it below!

About 'Revolution Radio':

'Revolution Radio' is a love letter to our fans and just how far everyone has come in the last 30 years. The first thing we needed to do was take a break. We needed to step away from Green Day and wait for inspiration to hit us - you can't push songs. They have to be pure and from the heart. When I wrote "Bang Bang," i remember saying "let's go, this is great, this is Green Day." I played it for Mike and Tré and they agreed.

On song writing:

I think Green Day has always been those moments of clarity. You can do all the drugs that you want and drink all the booze that you want. But when a band is at their best, it's when they're clear headed. I didn't write 'American Idiot' on drugs, I was clear and it felt really positive. In my songs I stay curious and ask questions.Feeling nervous or having anxiety - I feel everything. When playing live, it kind of plays itself out and I kind of realize it... wow... this is life. Life is awkward and unpredictable and that's the best thing about it. A lot of people thought I was being tongue-in-cheek on 'Basket Case' and no, this is pretty much a diary. I've learned to kind of use [my problems and curiosity] in a positive way - you get a bit whiney but it's better than bottling it up.

On touring:

We're going for it. We're doing this run of theaters right now and then we're gonna come out and play arenas, stadiums, and festivals. We're going to ride this wave because it feels really good. Every once in a while you get a record that you feel is transcending. There is no struggle with what's going on, it's just pure joy. That's what this record is starting to feel like. We're going to have a lot of fun with Idiot Nation and it's going to be great.
