i think that warning is about being ok with (or not even knowing about ) the danger in your everyday life. the way that the character ignores the natural warnings that come with being alive is very weird. (maybe the guy sniffed just a little too much glue).

It is about him feeling like the roots and foundations of the band have been torn up. He knew that to progress as a songwriter he had to do this, and so wrote the song about being a 'Castaway'. He knew the old crew would not support him. I think it is more about the band 'going at it alone' rather than him as an individual. I read someone even wrote on a wall 'Billie Joe must die' after this album came out...

I think it's about this person who is taking a path in life that is leading them into nothing but dead ends and there's no turning back, "of no return and no looking back or down" he has nowhere to turn but also, not back and down means forward and up, which means that we have this outcast character who seems to have gone off the tracks a bit but despite being completely lost and alone they keep looking up and trying to carry on. Quite an inspirational thought really.

"he liquidated his estate." also more generally the ugly side of life e.g running away from home, going broke, and being whacked. In the bridge just before the solo it makes references to the media and how they don't really care what good you do but what mistakes you make and wont stop until they are satisfied.

It's sort of implying that the majority of people these days all go with the flow. Usually, if you're seen as different, people frown upon you, sort of saying "hey, don't be different, enjoy the same things as everyone else. be normal," and Billie is sort of just telling you to be whoever the hell you want to be. Be your own loser, LIKE starwars if you want (-shifty eyes-), be a punk, and if anyone doubts you, or disagrees with your beliefs, don't take it in. just say:

This is like my freaking theme song. It's about not wanting to be a person that always fits in and is part of that majority that thinks alike and acts alike . Its about being your own person and standing out from the crowd and not being in line with the other idiots that look like they share a brain, no matter if that means being excluded from a group

Minority is about being an individual, and being proud of it. This song really speaks out to me, it reminds me of school and telling the teachers to fuck off and let me be who i am, not to try and mould me into the perfect pupil.

I think this song is what life must be about to everybody, to live doing whatever you believe in not being a "sheep in the herd." believe in yourself and no one else and maybe that's what billie joe was thinking on when he wrote it maybe because he's different from so many others, some people could say 'why aren't u like this one or that one?' and it's like a way to say fuck it! I'll be whatever I wanna be I don't give a shit about what you say this is my life and I'm being a minority.
that's what 'minority' means to me and it really helps me to be what I like to be (:

It's sort of implying that the majority of people these days all go with the flow. Usually, if you're seen as different, people frown upon you, sort of saying "hey, don't be different, enjoy the same things as everyone else. be normal," and Billie is sort of just telling you to be whoever the hell you want to be. Be your own loser, LIKE starwars if you want (-shifty eyes-), be a punk, and if anyone doubts you, or disagrees with your beliefs, don't take it in. just say:
"fuck you, i'm not one of your fucking clones, I'm not trying to satisfy you. I'm a Punk, a minority, and i don't want to be your description of 'perfect', so get the fuck out."
It's the true meaning of punk, really. And it's totally what i believe in you guys! and i think Green Day is a minority in its own sort of way. XD!!!!!

i think that this song means that you don't need any authority or permission to be yourself and to stand out from the crowd. Green Day is a great example of a minority - they are a band that stands out and are not afraid to show it - that's also a huge thing about being punk - you're not just a clone of everything else that's around you - you're just you!!!!!

This album had alot of governmental and economical elements put into it. It really shows in this song. "Economy sized dreams of hope". I think it also has to do with media and advertisments and if something appeals to our own interests were bound to look more in depth to it.

In a way, this song reminds of the poem "Ode to a Grecian Urn" by John Keats.
(look up the poem to understand why I mention this)
Billie is describing all the advertisements he would see if he went into NYC to watch the parade:
"stuffed in a coffin 10% more free"
"Give me something that I need,
satisfaction guaranteed..."
Looking at all of these advertisements, however, makes him reminisce and wonder what really matters in his life:
"when I was a kid I thought.
I wanted all the things that I haven't got...
oh. I learned the hardest way."
"Because I'm thinking about
a brand new hope,
the one I've never known;
cause now I know
it's all that I wanted."

Even our deaths ("stuffed in a coffin 10% more free") are used for profit. Also, Billie is saying that, even with all these advertisements and other shit in our lives, we still can't find what we really need - hope.
