1. 2,000 Light Years Away
Posted by Jonny on November 22 2009
This is about the first time he saw Adrienne, and then he left to go back on tour and he felt like she was so far away; also the first time he saw her she came up to him and asked him were she could buy his album.

2. One for the Razorbacks
Posted by Jacob Lankford on June 07 2009
I am from Arkansas so this is by far my favorite song. Its about a girl named Juliet from Arkansas, whom the band had met, the lyrics suggest that Juliet cannot find a guy who can make her happy so Billie's saying "Look this direction, i know its not perfection, its just me, i want to bring you up again now." so that she will see that Billie's standing there, for her if she needs him.

3. Welcome to Paradise
Posted by Raquel V. on April 24 2010
Welcome to Paridise is about Billie Joe and Mike Dirnt being famous and how it felt for Billie to move out and have to live in some strange home that was abandoned with Mike.Welcome to Paradise for Mike was about graduating high school and finally knowing that something was actually going good for him. Over all this song is about change in Billie and Mike's ways of living going through some major changes.

"Christie Road" was where Billie and his friends would go and get stoned. It just a song about boredom and pot.

5. Private Ale
Posted by Jnet on June 10 2009
In this song, a boy is in love/lust with a girl who already has a boyfriend. He goes for long walks alone, thinking about his future. But he can't make himself care about his future, because his thoughts are so focused on the girl he loves/wants. He realizes that he's ended up across the street from her house and starts thinking about her. He wonders if she's alone or with her boyfriend. For a little while, he gives his thoughts free rein and imagines everything he wants to do with her ("let my imagination go" ... "through my veins temptation flows." Then he sits down "on the hard concrete" and keeps thinking about her.

6. Dominated Love Slave
Posted by GREENDAYFAN:] on April 09 2010
I think that the meaning of "Dominated Love Slave" is about someone who would probably do anything for you and let you do ANYTHING when it comes to being punished for your sins and sex.

7. One of My Lies
Posted by Black Rose on November 18 2009
This song is about how when you're young, your parents tell you about all the magical things in the world, like how "the world revolves around you" or "you're gonna grow up to be a big star/president", and as you grow up, you realize that all these things are lies, and you start to develop a hatred of your parents, you stop caring about everything, and all you wanna do is get high to get rid of the betrayed feeling.

8. 80
Posted by James on June 06 2009
Literally, it's about Billie Joe's wife, and how he felt about her.

In a general sense, it's just when your love for someone drives you up the wall, but you just can't muster up the courage to tell them, or if you just can't get through to them how you feel.

9. Android
Posted by anonymous on March 23 2010
Basicly it's about observing the elderly and what they do that appears to be "crazy" from societies point of view, then wondering if you'd end up like them once you reach an old age, and/or if you'd even be alive by that point.
It also seems to be about being scared of time flowing by too fast.

10. No One Knows
Posted by KC on June 01 2009
I think it's about not wanting to grow up or change. But you see all the people around you excited about growing up so you keep your fear inside and put on a brave face. Or it could possibly be about you not wanting to grow up but your friends do and your actions to prevent growing up ends up hurting your friends.

11. Who Wrote Holden Caulfield
Posted by Jorge Chávez on May 26 2009
Basically, this song is about the character Holden Caulfield from the book The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, one of Billie's favorites.
It describes the personality and attitude of Holden about ending up doing nothing and being hopeless about people, for example: "There's a boy who fogs his world and now he's getting lazy, there's no motivation [...]"
And then "[...]Frustration makes him crazy[...]" is the conclusion to Holden's attitude.
Holden Caulfield is almost always saying things that he considers not important and then he quits an idea that he was really wanting to do, like calling someone on the phone.
There are so many things on the book related to the song that it would be hard to list them all in here, so I just added some examples.
Im conclusion, if you read the book and then listen to this song, it's is 100% sure that you will end up saying: "This song is so true" "Yeah, that is Holden" etc.

12. Words I Might Have Ate
Posted by HJ on February 14 2010
This song is about the mistakes you have done or said to someone you love and your regret about that. You will only realize the value of that relationship (or friendship) just after losing it or causing it to become more fragile.

14. Best Thing In Town
Posted by josh on August 18 2009
To me this song has a double meaning. one is of acid and getting high, and the other is of a girl that Billie likes. Or possibly getting high with the girl he likes. The phrase, "come with me and lets go for a ride" I interpret as him talking to the girl saying do you want to get high with me? Then he says, "follow me into the other side" which i think is describing one of the feelings of getting high. Also he says, "seeing colors and all i hear are sounds," another thing i associate with getting high. But then again he also says, "cause i know that your the best thing in town." I tend to think that he's saying this to the girl.

15. Strangeland
Posted by lacy hammonds on November 26 2009
i think this song is about someone tripping on acid or some type of drugs mostly cuz he talks about "strange beings all around" and "come everyone to this place i've found." or possibly it could have been like a nightmare that billie joe had one night.

16. My Generation
Posted by Sk8punk on August 21 2009
This song talks about the loss of a generation. The hopes about a generation that everyone despises. its a typical song from the 60s and 70s cos' its the dawn of the punk movement with the famous saying "no future".
