1. Maria

It's about this guy's girlfriend who runs away and he is trying to find her. Meanwhile, she is so angry that she is doing rebellious things.

2. Poprocks & Coke
Posted by Raquel V. on January 14 2010
Poprocks & Coke is about when you care about someone a lot but don't know how to express yourself to them.

it's about being bored and unemployed, not wanting to get a job that you hate so instead you just sit around masturbating all day.

4. Welcome to Paradise
Posted by Raquel V. on April 24 2010
Welcome to Paridise is about Billie Joe and Mike Dirnt being famous and how it felt for Billie to move out and have to live in some strange home that was abandoned with Mike.Welcome to Paradise for Mike was about graduating high school and finally knowing that something was actually going good for him. Over all this song is about change in Billie and Mike's ways of living going through some major changes.

5. Basket Case
Posted by CivilRights on February 05 2010
This song is about Billie Joe's anxiety attacks (panic attacks) and how he feels that having an anxiety attack is like being stoned. You have no control over what you do, all you can do is sit back and ask yourself, whats wrong with me?

6. When I Come Around
Posted by PsychoSatarah on May 05 2010
I think that this song is about taking a break in any kind of relationship whether it's boyfriend and girlfriend or two best friends but also despite the fight if someone leaves and you decide to look for them you know where they'll be.

7. She
Posted by Cym on April 14 2010
This song tells the story of a girl who has lived her life for and in the shadows of those around her. She has the desire to prove herself as more than what she's planned out to be, but she feels so trapped and continually frustrated that she's ready to abandon everything and start living life HER way.

This is written by mike about a childhood friend who died in a car accident at only 19 years old.

9. Geek Stink Breath

BJ wrote this because of all the bad things that happen to you after doing drugs. Mainly meth.

10. Brain Stew
Posted by Brandon on February 14 2010
Billie Joe wrote most of the songs on Insomniac when he couldn't go back asleep after his kid kept waking up crying in the middle of the night. Brain Stew is a song about the insomnia he got from all of that waking up in the middle of the night and how it affected him.

11. Jaded
Posted by Marshall on August 07 2009
It makes sense that this song flows out of Brain Stew, where he cannot sleep, so he possibly uses drugs to ease the insomnia, and then he is "jaded." This song is partly about being high, but more importantly about always moving forward in life, regardless of how correctly you are moving (always move forward; going straight will get you nowhere)

12. Walking Contradiction
Posted by whatsername on December 08 2009
i think walking contradiction is just about being what everyone hates - the anti-whatever, and wherever you go something goes wrong and someone is always really pissed

13. Stuck With Me
Posted by little tre on April 02 2010
In this song, the narrator (Billie Joe) is pretty much saying that he is a loser and doesn't really care if he gets "thrown back into the gutter".

14. Hitchin' a Ride
Posted by TheSaintJimmy1998 on March 06 2010
The meaning of this song sounds like a redemption film to me. Its about a guy trying to give up on alcoholism, but eventually gives in, but is lying to everyone about it, and that he's OK. ("Troubled times / You know I cannot lie). One of my favourite Green Day songs.

15. Time Of Your Life
Posted by S. Jimmy on November 11 2009
This song is about breaking up with someone. Even though you won't see them again, you "hope they have the time of their life." You don't really know what's going to happen, so "it's somethin unpredictable." But "in the end it's right," meaning you did the right thing. And all that stuff about photographs and turning points is remembering you (photographs) and the turning point is the break up. Kind of funny that this was played at countless weddings and graduations, suppossedly a love song.

16. Redundant
Posted by PsychoSatarah on May 05 2010
I believe this song is about caring about someone so much to the point that you can't even say "I Love You" because to you it wouldn't be enough. Like the word you're looking for doesn't exist so you're speechless on what to say to them. So you end up doing the same thing which is not saying a word because there isn't a word to explain how you feel about them.

17. Nice Guys Finish Last
Posted by KaitlynSophia on March 19 2010
This song is about how people can be so nice that they become push overs. And you can't let people push you around otherwise there's nothing good in anything you do.

18. Minority
Posted by TheSaintJimmy1998 on April 11 2010
It's the sequel to Warning : we've questioned everything, they've tried to oppress us, we'll fight them for what they've done. It's a song about rebellion and being a unique character that basically is you.

19. Warning
Posted by Renato Melo on March 03 2010
It's about a thing that everybody misses today: Question everything!
Why we gotta get this opression? If we say something, they tell us to shut up, and the people who do this are the ones who should be protecting us, like police and politicians.

20. Waiting
Posted by PsychoSatarah on May 05 2010
I think this song is about finding your calling and knowing where you belong in the world. You know it's gonna be hard to get there but you know you gotta keep going for it.

21. Macy's Day Parade
Posted by Jacob Lankford on January 16 2010
This album had alot of governmental and economical elements put into it. It really shows in this song. "Economy sized dreams of hope". I think it also has to do with media and advertisments and if something appeals to our own interests were bound to look more in depth to it.
