It's about being paranoid and having panic attacks - and as a teenager who has had very bad experiences with both (So bad I passed out) I can say it captures the feeling pretty well, right down to thinking you're going insane and mixing up words in your head. And the line "Am I just paranoid, or am I just stoned?" gives a good relation to how it feels like tripping when you're seriously stoned.

It's about telling people to just chill and not worry about you. That you're trying to just find your way in life and you're gonna do shit but to just let it happen. It's telling yourself this too. But... he has a lot to think about. He is realizing that he's only human, and his life will end eventually, so he wonders if the same thing could happen to him if he continues to live his life like Jason did. It doesn't mention him by name (well, apart from in the title), but it's essentially about reminiscing about a friend that you've lost. Some lyrics do relate directly ("My friend drove off the other day..."), and they kinda make you think that if you lead the same life as your friend who died, maybe you should rethink the way you're living.

By contradictary, I mean the age old rule on punk going mainstream and how "true" punk stays underground. "I believe I'm a walking contradiction and I got no rights." It's sort of implying that the majority of people these days all go with the flow. Usually, if you're seen as different, people frown upon you, sort of saying "hey, don't be different, enjoy the same things as everyone else. be normal," and Billie is sort of just telling you to be whoever the hell you want to be. Be your own loser, LIKE starwars if you want (-shifty eyes-), be a punk, and if anyone doubts you, or disagrees with your beliefs, don't take it in. just say:

I think this song is what life must be about to everybody, to live doing whatever you believe in not being a "sheep in the herd." believe in yourself and no one else and maybe that's what billie joe was thinking on when he wrote it maybe because he's different from so many others, some people could say 'why aren't u like this one or that one?' and it's like a way to say fuck it! I'll be whatever I wanna be I don't give a shit about what you say this is my life and I'm being a minority.

It's sort of implying that the majority of people these days all go with the flow. Usually, if you're seen as different, people frown upon you, sort of saying "hey, don't be different, enjoy the same things as everyone else. be normal," and Billie is sort of just telling you to be whoever the hell you want to be. Be your own loser, LIKE starwars if you want (-shifty eyes-), be a punk, and if anyone doubts you, or disagrees with your beliefs, don't take it in. just say:
"fuck you, i'm not one of your fucking clones, I'm not trying to satisfy you. I'm a Punk, a minority, and i don't want to be your description of 'perfect', so get the fuck out."
It's the true meaning of punk, really. And it's totally what i believe in you guys! and i think Green Day is a minority in its own sort of way. XD!!!!!

i think that this song means that you don't need any authority or permission to be yourself and to stand out from the crowd. Green Day is a great example of a minority - they are a band that stands out and are not afraid to show it - that's also a huge thing about being punk - you're not just a clone of everything else that's around you - you're just you!!!!!

i think that warning is about being ok with (or not even knowing about ) the danger in your everyday life. the way that the character ignores the natural warnings that come with being alive is very weird. (maybe the guy sniffed just a little too much glue).

To me, it talks about the way it can be when life seems to be going your way, when your dreams seem like they are actually in sight, but then, BAM, things turn to shit and you are back where you were. To me it's a song about having your hopes dashed and the futility we can sometimes feel as we struggle to go toward our dreams.

This song is really close to me, it's always been my favorite. To me, the song is about life giving you a chance or opportunity that you've waited for. Not necessarily something big, but just something that means something to you. Or that changes your life, even if it's in a small way. The reason I love it so much is because we're all waiting on something to happen, but most of us are too busy with what's going on to realize that all these small moments and opportunities are passing us by.

This album had alot of governmental and economical elements put into it. It really shows in this song. "Economy sized dreams of hope". I think it also has to do with media and advertisments and if something appeals to our own interests were bound to look more in depth to it.

In a way, this song reminds of the poem "Ode to a Grecian Urn" by John Keats.
(look up the poem to understand why I mention this)
Billie is describing all the advertisements he would see if he went into NYC to watch the parade:
"stuffed in a coffin 10% more free"

satisfaction guaranteed..."
Looking at all of these advertisements, however, makes him reminisce and wonder what really matters in his life:
