We posted up the electric guitar entries for our 'Record A Sawng' contest. We got a ton of entries, so it wasn't easy to bring it down to only 5. Now you guys can go to the contest page and vote for your favorite.

Thanks to everyone who entered. Sorry for putting these up a day late, voting will run through Monday night, and we'll start taking harmonica/accordian entries on Tuesday. The schedule has been updated to reflect that on the contest page.

We mentioned a couple times last week about Adeline Records Charity Auctions that went to benefit relief in Haiti. They had a handfull of rare Green Day items alongside many other music related items.

They posted an article on Adeline Records.net mentioning that the auctions raised over $13,000 for Doctors without Borders and the American Red Cross.

PunkNews.org and Paper Plastic also teamed up to auction off some items to raise money for Haiti, and included there was a rare first pressing of 39/Smooth from Lookout Records!, which sold for $938.

All the money raised went to a great cause, and it's great to see that so many Green Day fans stepped up to the plate and were willing to bid on some pretty awesome things to help benefit this. Thanks to everyone who helped and pitched in.

While at the Grammy's Green Day took some time out of their busy day of rehearsals and interviews to sit down and autograph a Les Paul guitar and a 21st Century Breakdown vinyl. Both of these items have been placed on Ebay for auction and all of the proceeds of the auction goes to the Grammy Foundation and the MusiCares Foundation. Both of the items are a little pricey, but remember the proceeds are going to a good cause.

Click here to bid on the autographed Les Paul and click here to bid on the autographed 21st Century Breakdown vinyl.

Also, the cast of the American Idiot musical will once again be performing live outside their theater. This time the performance will be at the Second Annual Character Approved Awards. The event will take place in New York City on February 25th, and Green Day will be recognized. You can view the full press release on PRNewsWire.com by clicking here.

NME.com has posted a new interview with Green Day entitled, "What Rock'N'Roll Has Taught Us". In the band takes you through some of the recording of 21st Century Breakdown along with what life was like for the band as children.
'When things were getting a little difficult during the recording of 21st Century Breakdown, Butch [Vig] helped us a lot. He brought this great sense of calm, but was totally enthusiastic at the same time. Half the job of a producer is to be an adviser and say, "Look, I know you've heard this song 13,000 times in a row but it's still as good as it was the first time you heard it". There were times when we definitely needed that. -- Billie Joe Armstrong'

The interview covers a bunch of topics and it is a really great read. At the very bottom of the interview, NME has also included a few interesting facts about the band.

You can read the full interview by clicking here.

In other news, Fuse's Daily Noise did a interview with Green Day after the Grammys on Sunday night. In the interview they discuss how they didn't think that they were going to win the award for 'Best Rock Album' along with how hard it was for them to follow up American Idiot. You can watch the interview on Fuse.tv by clicking here.

Green Day did a short interview (only around a minute long) with the TV Guide Channel after the Grammys. They talked about their win and their thoughts about the musical cast. You can watch it on YouTube.

The band also talked to MTV about the Grammys, and here's a quote from Billie Joe about winning:
'"I have to say that this is the sweetest time ... I think just the pressure coming off American Idiot, then putting out 21st Century Breakdown and getting recognized for it and all the success that it's had, it feels really great."'

Read the full article on VH1.com.

Matt C. sent us this HD download of the performance. It's quite big (175MB) but the quality is really great.

You can view 125+ photos from the Grammys in our Picture Vault.

We're doing a project called "Record a Sawng" where people send in each instrument for a song ("Minority" in this case) and we put them up for popular vote then pick take entries for the next instrument. Over the weekend you guys voted for the acoustic guitar entries and Dan was chosen to the part. This week we're taking recordings for electric guitar. All the details, questions and form to submit your entries can be found on the contest page. We posted up the song as it stands right now so you can listen to what we have on that page.

Today marks the 16th anniversary of Dookie's release. This was Green Day's first major release, and brought them forward to the mainstream of the world and into millions of lives. Much of their work has always been compared to it's success, and many fans still hold onto Dookie as their favorite album. It definitely has a message in it that so many people can connect to, which no doubt played a huge part in it's success. Happy Birthday, Dookie.
